Through trauma-informed programming, wellness initiatives, resource connections, and community partnerships, we work to reduce barriers to care and support healing, stability, and long-term well-being.

Position Title: Board Member (Board of Directors)

Location: Remote 
Commitment: Approximately 5 - 10 hours/month; Quarterly board meetings + fundraising participation
Reports To: Board Chair

Role Overview

​

Safe Spaces Inc. is seeking passionate, mission-driven leaders to join our Board of Directors. Board members play a vital role in guiding the strategic direction of the organization, ensuring financial sustainability, supporting community impact, and upholding our values of equity, respect, and inclusion.

​

This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who want to contribute their expertise, leadership, and voice to shape a growing nonprofit that champions safe and inclusive spaces for all.

​

Key Responsibilities

​

As a board member, you will:

​

  • Provide strategic governance and oversight in alignment with Safe Spaces Inc.’s mission and bylaws.

  • Participate in setting organizational goals, reviewing initiatives, and monitoring performance.

  • Ensure fiduciary responsibility, including approving budgets and financial planning.

  • Advocate for Safe Spaces Inc. within your networks and help expand community partnerships.

  • Support fundraising efforts and contribute to resource development, including a personal financial contribution.

  • Attend and actively participate in regular board meetings, committee work, and annual planning sessions.

  • Uphold ethical standards and ensure compliance with legal and nonprofit best practices.

 

Financial Contribution

​

Board members are expected to make a personal annual contribution to Safe Spaces Inc. that reflects their capacity and commitment. Suggested giving levels start at $500 per year, with higher contributions encouraged but not required. Contributions can be monetary, in-kind, or through leveraged support for fundraising initiatives.

Qualifications

​

We welcome candidates with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences. Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

​

  • A deep commitment to inclusion, equity, and community empowerment.

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: nonprofit governance, leadership, finance, legal, fundraising, community engagement, communications, program evaluation, or advocacy.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate respectfully with a diverse board and staff.

  • Strategic thinking and a willingness to contribute time, expertise, and financial support.

 

People from historically underrepresented or marginalized communities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Time Commitment

​

  • Board term: 1 year (renewable)

  • Monthly or quarterly board meetings (virtual/in-person)

  • Committee participation based on interest and expertise

  • Occasional events or strategic planning sessions
